The Role of the Colon in Detoxing: How to Support It During a Cleanse

Alright babe, it’s time we talk about the most underappreciated, overworked, and low-key essential organ in your entire detox journey: your colon. Yep. Your booty tube. Your internal trash chute. The final exit for all the stuff your body’s trying to get rid of.
Because here’s the deal—if your colon isn’t doing its job, nothing else in your detox matters. You can drink all the green juice and swallow all the herbs in the world, but if you’re not pooping, that stuff is just swirling around inside you like a toxic smoothie.

Let’s break it down.
Your colon (aka large intestine) is responsible for:
Removing waste and toxins
Balancing hydration and electrolyte levels
Housing beneficial gut bacteria
Finalizing the digestion party
During a detox or parasite cleanse, your body works extra hard to kill off pathogens and pull toxins from your tissues, blood, and organs. But if your colon isn’t open and moving… where do you think all that waste goes?
Nowhere. It recirculates.
That’s when people feel awful on a cleanse—headaches, fatigue, skin breakouts, nausea, mood swings. Not because detoxing is “bad,” but because your body can’t flush.
So if you're detoxing or cleansing, your colon needs to be:
🚽 Pooping daily (non-negotiable)🚿 Hydrated and supported🧽 Free from blockages, inflammation, and sluggish vibes
Big Sis Tips to Support Your Colon During a Cleanse:
Up the fiber. Ground flaxseeds, chia pudding, and loads of veggies are your BFFs right now. Fiber acts like a broom and sweeps out the junk.
Hydrate like it’s your full-time job. Aim for 2–3L of filtered water per day. Add lemon or a pinch of salt to help absorption. And no, iced lattes don’t count.
Try magnesium. Magnesium citrate or oxide can help things move if you’re a little… backed up. Don’t overdo it, or you'll be sprinting to the loo.
Go next-level with colonics or enemas. I know, it sounds intense, but when done correctly and safely, these can seriously speed up toxin removal. Just make sure it’s with someone who knows what they’re doing.
Move your body. Gentle walks, stretching, rebounding, or shaking it out literally help stimulate peristalsis (aka, the wave motion your colon uses to move poop along).
Signs your colon is not keeping up:
You're not pooping every day
Your detox symptoms feel worse than helpful
You feel bloated, gassy, or heavy
Your skin is breaking out
You just feel off
Give your gut some love and let it let go 🧻
