If you feel like you need three coffees just to make it through the day, but then can’t fall asleep at night, your hormones might be throwing a silent tantrum. The truth is: your hormones are the backstage crew running the whole show — energy, mood, focus, even how well you digest food. And when they’re out of whack? It’s chaos.
This post is your no-BS breakdown of why your hormones are wrecking your energy and what you can finally do about it.

1. Blood Sugar Rollercoaster = Energy Rollercoaster
When your blood sugar spikes and crashes, your insulin and cortisol go wild. Cue: fatigue, irritability, and cravings. Even if you’re eating “healthy,” skipping protein at meals or snacking on too many “clean” carbs can keep you on this cycle.
Fix it: Balance every meal with protein, fibre, and fat. Think salmon and avocado salad instead of just greens.
2. Cortisol Burnout
Stress hormone overload = wired but tired. If you’re always in fight-or-flight mode, your body diverts energy away from digestion and repair. Over time, cortisol dysregulation leaves you exhausted in the morning and restless at night.
Fix it: Build in nervous system resets — breathwork, walking barefoot outside, or just saying “no” more often.
3. Thyroid Slowdown
Your thyroid is your metabolism boss. If it’s sluggish (hypothyroidism or subclinical thyroid issues), you’ll feel drained no matter how much sleep or coffee you get.
Fix it: Support with selenium, zinc, iodine-rich foods, and get your thyroid labs checked if symptoms scream “low battery.”
4. Estrogen Dominance or Low Progesterone
Too much estrogen or not enough progesterone = PMS, mood swings, heavy periods, and fatigue. Your liver and gut play a huge role in clearing estrogen — so if they’re struggling, so are your energy levels.
Fix it: Load up on cruciferous veggies, support your liver (hello, beet and berry liver flush smoothie), and seed cycle with flax and pumpkin seeds in follicular, sunflower and sesame in luteal.
5. Hidden Gut Drama
Bloating, gas, sluggish digestion — they’re not just annoying, they’re draining your energy too. Parasites, dysbiosis, or just poor nutrient absorption can leave you feeling flat.
Fix it: Heal the gut. Probiotics, fibre, and possibly a parasite cleanse if the signs point that way.
